Episcopal Wins Patient Experience Award for Second Straight Year

TUH-Episcopal is on a roll! The hospital's excellent patient experience ratings have earned it a major award two years in a row. Episcopal was named a 2015 Guardian of Excellence Award winner at the Press Ganey National Conference in early November, for consistently achieving patient experience scores in the top five percent among all inpatient behavioral health hospitals throughout the reporting year.

"We take great pride in being consistently recognized as a top performer in patient satisfaction," says Kathleen Barron, Executive Director of the TUH-Episcopal and TUH-Northeastern campuses.

"This award recognizes the teamwork, dedication, and commitment of our entire staff to provide high-quality care to our patients every day."

The accolade is a testament to the devotion and enthusiasm of the hospital’s staff, according to Doris Quiles, MSN, Episcopal's Director of Behavioral Health. "Our staff is dedicated to providing excellent care and experiences to everyone who comes to the campus. Their commitment to our patients and enthusiasm as they work together is why they achieved this prestigious recognition."

Years ago, Episcopal took the Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction survey and mapped its questions to every department, so that all staff understood the important contribution they make to the outcomes. Results of the survey continue to be shared with staff every month, and should any department score below the 95th percentile (top five percent nationwide), the director of that department works with staff to develop an action plan to earn higher scores.

"The Guardian of Excellence Award represents a hospital culture that is committed to quality patient care," says William Dubin, MD, Episcopal’s Chief Medical Officer. "It reflects the dedication of the clinical staff, including physicians, nurses, mental health workers, social workers, behavioral therapists, psychologists, residents, and medical students. This award, however, would not have been possible without the ongoing and consistent support of the nonclinical departments, including dietary, maintenance, housekeeping, the ancillary laboratory, pharmacy, the security department, radiology services, and the hospital administration."
